Help non-profit organization COBRA rebuild its home and base of operations, Cobra Island, which was destroyed by GI JOE.

We are COBRA, a worldwide organization devoted to making advancements in science and defense technology.

Recently our home and secret base of operations was destroyed in an attack by the terrorist militia known as GI JOE.

So after discussing a plan of action with my colleagues DESTRO, DR. MINDBENDER, and our business analysts TOMAX and XAMOT, we reached the conclusion that we need $94 billion to fully restore COBRA ISLAND and the COBRA organization.

It’s Round 5– the Quarterfinals of the Mix March Madness 2013 Webcomics Tournament!

We’ve gone from over 300 webcomics down to the Elite 8, and with your help we’ve raised over $2000 for the Hero Initiative since the tournament started. Voting for this round lasts until 9PM EDT on Saturday, March 23– get your votes in!

We’re getting lots of heavy voting and close contests. People’s vote buying is beginning to equal out; even with over $400 in votes bought in the last round, only one of the eight contests was ultimately tipped by bought votes.

Again, we’re letting you support your favorite strips by paying for additional votes, with your money going to charity. Simply click on the Donate button below, and during checkout, click on “Which comic are you donating for?” and tell us who you’re voting for. The price for this round is going up to 25¢ a vote, with a minimum of four votes purchased at a time, split any way you want. All proceeds from paid votes will go to the Hero Initiative , an organization that helps comic book creators in need. At the close of the round, we’ll add the paid votes to the totals and announce the winners who move on to the brackets. (And yes, your donations to Hero are tax deductible.)

Tonight at 7 PM at the The Lee Strassberg Theatre, 115 E 15th St. in New York City, there will be a staged reading of True Believers, a new play by Thom Dunn, directed by Matthew A.J. Gregory.

True Believers tells the epic tale of star crossed lovers, aspiring comic book artists, women in refrigerators, psychotic fanboys, and girls who dress like Princess Leia as their lives intertwine over a weekend at a comic book convention.

Admission is free, which is more than you can say about most comic conventions nowadays. If you’re in town, give it a shot.

Here we go again… it’s Round 4 of the Mix March Madness 2013 Webcomics Tournament!

Now… it starts to get brutal.

We’ve gone from over 300 webcomics down to the Sweet 16. We’ve raised over $750 for the Hero Initiative in this round alone, so far you’ve bought over $1500 in votes. Voting for this round lasts until 9PM EDT on Wednesday, March 20, so get your votes in.

We’re now getting to the point where money is beginning to be a big influence in contests, with an additional 40% of votes purchased. It made the difference in a number of contests, making winners out of Grrl Power, Commander Kitty, Unsounded, Weregeek, and Bittersweet Candy Bowl.

But that was the last round– what are they going to do this time around? It’s all in your hands now!

Jesse V. Johnson, the director behind Anchor Bay‘s The Package and the recently announced Kill ‘Em All, John (both vehicles for former wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin) used $3500 and a bunch of favors to make a fan film to demonstrate his chops beyond direct-to-video action fare. He cast Danish singer Nina Bergman as Wonder Woman and got Peter Stormare and Sons Of Anarchy‘s Timothy V. Murphy to play oily Nazis. The resulting video, produced by Hugh Daly and Faz Brahimi and aided by Johnson’s Station 3 manager and producing partner Kailey Marsh, can be seen here…
