One of the things I do is manage Peter David’s website. In a recent post called What do you think the odds are… about expected responses during the Republican convention, we’ve had such charming posts in the comments as:
Ronnie has done more in his lifetime than some shit jew dem writing comic books & spewing his hate on a blog. Dont like our voting system then go somewhere else and see if you can shoot your fucking jew mouth off about a great prez. Who has done more for this country than some overweight fucking rich jewbag like yourself.
and
Go dip your head in your comics thats where it belongs and stop playing politics unless of course you plan to run for office??? no please we got enough overpaid jews in office as it is.
and
Maybe if Ronnie had been a rich fucking Dem jew then PAD would of have had more respect.
I asked Peter if he wanted me to remove the posts and/or the poster. “No,” he said, “leave them. I want everybody to see this person’s words.” He commented on the thread later, “My first impulse was just to delete his postings, but then I figured, the more he’s allowed to speak, the more he just hangs himself. When faced with blinding ignorance and hatred, it’s better to let it spew so it can be seen for what it is rather than try and smother it and thus give it even the slightest measure of credibility.”
I give him credit for having far more tolerance than me.
I have to agree with PAD on this one. It is VERY telling that the Rebloodlicans are the ones who instantly go on the attack, spewing racism and hate.
But then, isn’t that usually the case?
I don’t think we can blame republicans. This person is seriously imbalanced. Even Limbaugh has limits.
Cory: It is VERY telling that the Rebloodlicans are the ones who instantly go on the attack, spewing racism and hate. But then, isn’t that usually the case?
Well, not on this thread, at least.
Cory,
I am extremely offended that you would lump all Republicans (sorry, I won’t use your word derivation) with the person all of PAD’s blog realizes is an extremely angry/unbalanced person, whatever their ideology or beliefs.
If that’s the way you feel most Republicans are, you’re sadly mistaken.
In fact, in many of my posts on the thread, which have been very heated by the way, I simply claimed Dee is not a conservative or a liberal. She/he is not a Democrat or a Republican. She/he is clearly and quite simply insane.
And everyone has been defending PAD.
In fact, I am realy mad at Dee, because all I wanted to do was engage in dialogue about the death of a man I greatly admired, and instead had to see ugly, vicious comments no one deserves directed toward a writer I greatly respect.
And to conclude, Dee is such a “die-hard Republican” she cites Nixon and Ford as one-term Democrats who are “heroes to Democrats” like PAD.
The person is clearly an idiot.
Please don’t tar all Republicans with the same brush over the rantings of a sad, demented person:)
Let’s also not forget that we’re also seeing a lot of the same behavior from those on the left. Some of the hatred being spewed towards Reagan, an obviously beloved leader in most circles, has been unbelievable considering that the man has just died. From people calling him the lowest names to speculating on what his life in Hell is like right now, the Left is showing that mean-spiritedness and hate aren’t tied to any one political party.
On the PAD issue, nothing he said deserved the sick bile that was spewed his way. However, his comments were very cynical and, considering the fact that this week the majority of Americans are saying good bye to a president that they loved dearly, horribly ill-timed. PAD could have kept his silence until after the mourning was over or, at best, when the GOP manifested the behavior he is expecting. So, while the insulting comments directed at him were vile and totally uncalled for, I can also say that, in my opinion, PAD’s comments were crass and rude in the extreme. He doesn’t deserve to be insulted, but I don’t blame anyone who feels the need to point out the insensitivity and bad taste in posting such thoughts at a very emotional time for a lot of Americans. Such responses could be made without profanity or insulting PAD personally.
(Yeah, I know that PAD didn’t say anything about Reagan. But at a time when a lot of people are honestly grieving over this loss, PAD is questioning the motives of some of the mourners and suggesting the possible exploitation of Reagan’s name by those who would use it for political advantage. That didn’t need to be said right now. That could have waited.)
Cory,
Looks like you’re the “Dee” of this thread.
Ouch! That can’t be a good feeling. Try again.
Tim,
John Stewart said last night that if he waited to predict the Republicans would use Reagan’s memory until the mourning was over, by that time they would already have started and it wouldn’t be much of a prediction. (Not exact words, he was much pithier; and wittier to boot.)
