Speaking of media bias…

On this page on the RNC website G O P.com :: Kerry Supporters Begin Protest Pilgrimage, we have this blurb, which I reproduce here:

And Speaking of Media Bias
You know the drill drop by Google News and enter Ed Gillespie, then count the articles headlining DNC boss Terry McAuliffe. The liberal bias is sooooo glaring its almost embarrassing.

Shall we talk about bias, then? Okay. Mouse over that headlining link. You’ll note that the link doesn’t search on Ed Gillespie, it searches on http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&q=McAuliffe:+Democrats+Not+Aiding+Protesters&filter=0

And we get a link to 20 copies of the same AP story in 20 different newspapers. If that’s bias, I’m a mongoose.

They really do think we’re dumb, don’t they?

Just for grins and giggles, I actually ran the real search on Ed Gillespie. Here’s what I got:

  1. Hey, Glenn,

How come there’s no criticism from you of Kerry’s and MoveOn.org’s double standards with criticising the swift boat ads and the people who have resigned from the Bush campaign, and Kerry’s refusal to have supporters who are doing the same exact thing resign from his campaign?

And media bias? I love the way people argue against it. The people who own the mediums are mostly conservative, even though the people who actually put OUT the product are overwhelmingly liberal

  2. You know the drill drop by Google News and enter Ed Gillespie, then count the articles headlining DNC boss Terry McAuliffe. The liberal bias is sooooo glaring its almost embarrassing.

All I found was articles with Ed Gillespie mentioned or in the Title. Why do you think it’s biased to get a hit on the person you’re searching for?

  3. Glenn,

I’m not sure the point was to deceive–I think whoever wrote this was trying to show how Terry McAuliffe has been made into a household name while Ed Gillespie remains relatively unknown.

Me, I say fine, since McAuliffe seems to be way over his league. I don’t know that having his face all over the place really helps Kerry’s cause (though since Kerry seems to be ducking the press in favor of comedy shows I guess SOMEONE has to be out there!)

  4. “way over his league”?

What I was pointing out was that whoever wrote this was not only wrong about the bias, as EClark discovered for himself, but that whoever wrote the blog entry tried to make people think there was media bias by linking to the wrong stuff– in short, by lying through their teeth.

To repeat: the link the RNC blog writer provided, which they touted as being for “Ed Gillespie”, was actually a link for “McAuliffe: Democrats Not Aiding Protesters”. This was touted by the RNC blog as an example of glaring media bias.
