Internets?
GWB thinks we have Internets? Plural?

Actually Glenn, technically he’d be right. Usenet, e-mail and the WorldWide Web are all internets in their own right, and most companies and schools have their own InTRAnets. Now you can split hairs and I suppose I would too, but…
Technically, these days what people consider Usenet, most email, and the Web are Internet singular since Internet is defined by messages sent using IP, Internet Protocol. On the other hand, there are private networks, VPNs and the like, that use IP and are isolated from other networks. But Dubya use was a clear slip since I *really* doubt he has a clue what the magic box does under the hood (in fairness, I doubt Kerry’s much more up on it, but I suspect he’s used it more than Dubya).
Tom:
You might be right, and yeah, I’m sure Dubya’s slip was just that. I get a little tired of people picking on the way the man speaks sometimes though. It’s just so petty and actually shows their prejudices.
As for the Internet, when most people talk about the Internet they actually only mean the World Wide Web. Most people have no clue what UseNet is or even what it does. They have a better idea of email since so many people use it, but they don’t really consider email to be a PART of the internet. it’s just something that be sent VIA the internet.
