I’ll bet there are more sex offenders among the clergy than the atheists

Meet Michael Stahl, otherwise known as “Pastor Mike.” Stahl lives in Miramar, Florida, and leads an online church called Living Water Church, which we think is a fancy way of saying he hangs out a lot in a Christian-themed chat room. Stahl has proposed the creation of a national registry for atheists, much like the ones in existence for sex offenders.

We used to win friends by giving foreign kids Hershey Bars

Now Hershey does this:

The America that the Hershey’s workers have seen is surely not the one the J-1 visa was created to promote. But perhaps it is the America we have become. Hershey’s business strategy is a microcosm of the downsizing and subcontracting that so many American companies have pursued during the past few decades in search of ever cheaper labor.

The J-1 visa… has become the country’s largest guest worker program. Its “summer work travel” component recruits well over 100,000 international students a year to do menial jobs at dairy farms, resorts and factories — a privilege for which the Hershey’s students shelled out between $3,000 and $6,000. They received $8 an hour, but after fees and deductions, including overpriced rent for crowded housing, they netted between $1 and $3.50 an hour. Hershey’s once had its own unionized workers packing its candy bars, starting at $18 to $30 an hour. Now the company outsources distribution to a non-union company that hires most of its workers from the J-1 program.

What a way to win hearts and minds.

Some times I live in the country
Some times I live in town (when evacuated there)
Some times I take a great notion
To jump in the river and drown

Quit your rambling (Garden State Parkway closed) quit your gambling (Atlantic City casinos closed)
Stop staying out late at night (curfew imposed)
Stay home with your wife and family (that’s my plan)
And stay by the fireside of right

Irene good night Irene good night
Good night Irene Good night Irene
I’ll see you in my dreams

Of course Rick Perry doesn’t believe in global warming

He also doesn’t believe in evolution, Keynesian economics, or the possibility that God won’t answer his prayers and/or make him president:

BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) — GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry told New Hampshire voters Wednesday that he does not believe in manmade global warming, calling it a scientific theory that has not been proven.

“I think we’re seeing almost weekly, or even daily, scientists that are coming forward and questioning the original idea that manmade global warming is what is causing the climate to change,” the Texas governor said on the first stop of a two-day trip to the first-in-the-nation primary state.

He said some want billions or trillions of taxpayer dollars spent to address the issue, but he added: “I don’t think from my perspective that I want to be engaged in spending that much money on still a scientific theory that has not been proven and from my perspective is more and more being put into question.”

His comments came at a packed breakfast meeting with local business leaders in a region known for its strong environmental policies. And he made his global warming comment in response to a question by an audience member who cited evidence from the National Academy of Sciences.

But Perry’s opinion runs counter to the view held by an overwhelming majority of scientists that pollution released from the burning of fossil fuels is heating up the planet. Perry’s home state of Texas releases more heat-trapping pollution carbon dioxide — the chief greenhouse gas — than any other state in the country, according to government data.

As usual, the question comes up: if he won’t believe scientists who know more than he does about a topic or objective data, what makes you think that he’ll listen to generals, or reporters, or economists, or subordinates who contradict his own preconceptions?

If you vote for Rick Perry, you’re voting for a man who thinks he knows more than anybody else on any given topic, no matter what the data says. Including you.

And yet, it’s the Christians who think they’re persecuted

The recent publicity of 8,000-plus threats to atheists on Fox News’ Facebook page by Christians is positive proof that not only are those making threats not patriotic Americans who support the 1st Amendment, but they also belie their assertion that they are good Christians.
