Ruling from the judges…?

Over on Peter’s blog, topic titled PeterDavid.net: Bush vs. Kerry someone in the comments thread has mentioned Hitler.

My question: as a moderator, should I shut down the comment thread now that Godwin’s Law has been violated?

  1. Hasn’t it been invoked rather than violated? Deliberately invoking Godwin’s Law is supposd to backfire. I wouldn’t shut it down, though, there’s something about this administration which does seem to bring out comparisons with Nazi tactics (see the latest Ted Rall flap for more about that).

  2. As someone who’s relatively retarded when it comes to the internet, I had to google a bit to figure out what Godwin’s Law is. It was rather interesting and entertaining.

It was my impression that such arguements rapidly either blow themselves out or ignite in a thermonuclear explosion. Neither seems to be happening on the thread in question. Matters are progressing at least as civilly as most political discusions do there…

  3. Far as I understand it, all Godwin’s Law means is that eventually, someone’s going to mention Hitler. Someone did. No reason to shut anything down.
