Unless I am misreading these government reports, there are 237,522 more votes for president than there are voters in Florida. This, combined with other voting irregularities in Florida, make me wonder if the state was called too soon– and for the wrong man.

The following counties have more votes for President than voters:
Collier 943
Duval 357
Glades 742
Highlands 7,495
Lake 187
Leon 85
Miami-Dade 51,979
Okaloosa 222
Orange 1,648
Osceola 18,589
Palm Beach 90,774
Volusia 19,306
Something is REALLY wrong here.
UPDATE: Looking at the numbers, two more anomalies pop out:
* Escambia County seems to have had turnout of 161,183 voters, yet only 142,990 votes for president. 1 out of 8 voters in that county didn’t vote for president?
* Indian River County had exactly the same number of turnout and the number of votes for president. Of the counties that didn’t list more votes than voters, the spread was .055% to 1.045% of people who didn’t vote for president. Getting it perfect is unbelievable.
What makes you so sure it was called for the wrong man? Lets assume the ballot boxes were stuffed.. it was the dems who made a big issue of voter turnout.
Look at the county by county map… it seems to me to be more likely that the games were played in the few Kerry-counties than the large number of Bush (a/k/a “right thinking”) locales.
Glenn,
I have no doubt in my mind that the electronic voting machines did not in any way perform as advertised. Without a paper trail, I also don’t think we will ever know the whole truth. I also think it is criminal that the states who refused to have the paper trail. My Republican friends agree. Our voting rights have been abrogated to a few corporations.
Sorry, last line should be by a few corporations.
It’s probably all the extra absentee ballots from the New Yorkers claiming residency in both states 🙂
I also hate the lack of paper trail, though.
I might be dense, but I can’t see you’re talking about…
Glenn, I looked at the tables that you linked to and no county appears to have more votes than registered voters. I specifically checked several of the counties that you listed. If they previously said that, the tables have been changed.
David: you’re looking at the registered voters column. Look at the turnout column– the people who actually showed up to vote– and compare it the number of votes for President. Then you will see the discrepancies.
I also note that Keith Olbermann ran with this story as his lead on his MSNBC show last night (check http://bloggermannn.msnbc.com for his take and check back for a transcript of the show.)
Glenn;
I’m kind of lost on what you’re talking about. I added up the votes for President for Miami -Dade for all the candidates and came up at least 4000 votes short, meaning that 4000 voters did not vote for President in that county. I can’t figure out where you’re getting your numbers.
According to http://enight.dos.state.fl.us/DetailRpt.Asp?ELECTIONDATE=11/02/2004&RACE=PRE&PARTY=&DIST=&GRP=&DATAMODE=E
Miami-Dade breaks down like this:
Bush / Cheney 358,613
Kerry / Edwards 406,099
Peroutka / Baldwin 490
Badnarik / Campagna 630
Cobb / LaMarche 317
Harris / Trowe 226
Brown / Herbert 179
Nader / Camejo 1,999
for a total of 768,553 votes.
But according to
http://enight.dos.state.fl.us/StatusRpt.Asp?ElectionDate=11/2/2004&Datamode=E
actual voter turnout was 716,574 voters, which means that there were 51,979 more votes than voters.
Oho, wait a minute– the numbers have been changed. Now isn’t that interesting…
My copy of the original page is here at this page. Note the difference in dates.
You will note that even with these new numbers, Duval County still has 357 more votes than voters.
All that means is that someone’s made a mathmatical error. Unless you have proof otherwise there’s no conspiracy here. Hey, mistakes happen, people are …human.
Glenn – do you have the original “1st unofficial results” in a pdf file? The State of FL has “revised” them to eliminate the overvote. So your link doesn’t show an overvote anymore. Thanks.
Regina: I don’t, although I do have that link above. If you want PDF, try here— this PDF hasn’t been touched yet, and in fact introduces a THIRD set of numbers into our tallies.
All of these tallies, incidentally, all say that they are the 1st Set of Unofficial Returns. It seems to me that if you re-release revised numbers, they become the 2nd Set, 3rd Set, and so on…
